Concrete Writing

I'm not entirely sure what I am going to write yet, but I have some ideas.

I was thinking along the lines of a fade both visually and through the meaning of the words. From light to dark or along those lines. I'm still not sure on the shape, or how I am going to impliment the fading of light to dark yet.

I am also planning to use italics and use of lower/upper case letters to emphasize certain words or phrases.

Edit for in Class Writing:

This is the first project of the class and I like the fact that direction is given, but freedom to write how you want and about whatever you want is granted as well. This project seems like it will allow me to exercise my creativity that often lies dormant with being a Biology Major.

A trial with power point

Daniel,

I like where you are going with the fading and italics. Are you going to write a poem or a concrete visual text? Is this text going to correspond to your overall goals with fading and italics?

Also, I just wanted to agree with you about how open this assignment is and how creative freedom is extremely important.

I really like your idea's and have discovered that it has inspired on what I will do. I like that you are going to use all different types of fonts and styles in your project.

I like that it seems like you are going to just let your creative juices flow. I myself sometimes have to start actually working on a project to know at all where it is going. I think it will turn out great.

I definitely like the movement you've added to the poem. I feel like this version of the poem is more in sync with the connotation I get from "ping pong" Using word position to simulate motion is a good approach--something I might take with me to my project.

Daniel: OK, so you've got the idea of the lines fading and darkening. Keep in mind that you could do this with a static image - vary the darkness, color, opacity - and also with an animation. Italics/upper lower, etc. all will be good too. The key thing is to choose a text. Find one where this variation makes sense, where the concrete/visual interact with and comment on the text. So, choose a text you like; one you write or one that you find. A poem? A song? a quote? And yes, definitely take the creative freedom you want. Also, I really like your PowerPoint take on Ping Pong! Great use of the space of the page...
